About Dr. Smith:

Jimmy Smith is an Assistant Professor of sport management at Gonzaga University. Dr. Smith teaches sport management course in management principles, organizational behavior, marketing, event/facility management, fundraising and revenue management. Dr. Smith earned a Ph.D. in physical education with an emphasis in sport management at the University of Alberta.

 

Dr. Smith's prior academic background experiences include a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology (Fitness Management) from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he also was a student-athlete with the baseball team. He completed a Master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Sport Administration. During his time a Central Michigan University, Smith made his way up the ranks of the Central Michigan University athletic department working in areas of development and marketing where his primary duties included community outreach and revenue generation.

 

Dr. Smith's current qualitative research agenda continues to focus on change and organizational behaviors in sport organizations with recent articles being published in the Journal of Sport Management, Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics, Journal of Contemporary Athletics, and the International Journal of Sport Management. Dr. Smith’s most recent work focuses on sport ministry from a management perspective to the point that he is now teaching a sport ministry course at Gonzaga University and taking his students to provide before school physical activity opportunities to youth at a local elementary school.
